I grow slowly and simply, right here in the field behind my home. No chemicals, no digging, no rush — just plants with character, grown for people, and planted for pollinators.
The growing patch, the top slice of a field that had been used for pasture for centuries, quickly delivered questions that I had not anticipated. As we layered compost, grit, manure and mulch, the 'weeds' settled, nestled and thrived in between my chosen plants.
After months of weeding —ripping happy seedlings from their home; despairing at the time consuming act of effectively working against what I was claiming to want to protect—I took another look.

I stepped back.
The 'weeds' were beautiful. They weren't hurting the plants I had placed there. They were helping them, covering bare patches of soil, sealing in moisture, using their deep tap roots to break up heavy clay.
The rows of growth murmur and buzz with life. My flower farm does not look like a flower farm. It isn't tidy. It isn't ordered. It is better than I could have imagined and has taught me so much in such a short amount of time.
Together with trees, shrubs and foliage, there are wildflowers, grasses and herbacious perennials that feel alive: essential, wise and allowed to be.
I’m Emily – a writer, mother, plant grower and climate-conscious garden designer.
When my family left the army and settled in Devon, I finally had soil of my own. Planting, tending, and learning the names of flowers became a way to steady myself after the upheaval of early motherhood. Small acts that slowly rooted me back into the present.
For me, writing and gardening are inseparable: both ask for patience, attention, and the courage to shape something unique from your reality.
Through Ravensfield, I want to share that same sense of beauty and wildness — whether it’s a bucket of seasonal stems for a wedding, foliage for a florist, or flowers simply for your home. And while I grow for people, I’m always planting for pollinators.
